Minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Dipen Dewan said swift steps will be taken to develop healthcare services in the hilly regions, and practical measures will be implemented promptly.
He made these comments on Monday while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed 250-bed building of the Rangamati General Hospital in Rangamati.
Dipen remarked, “As a people’s government, it is the responsibility of the government to deliver healthcare to the doorsteps of the citizens.”
He noted that the government is prioritising the health sector. Through the inauguration of 250-bed building, quality medical care for the people of Rangamati is being ensured.
The Minister also emphasised the importance of focusing on the medical care provided to hospitalised patients and the conduct of doctors.
Acknowledging existing challenges, he mentioned the shortage of doctors and nurses at Rangamati General Hospital. He assured that all issues in the health sector, including the requirement for water ambulances for clinics at the Upazila level, would be addressed with priority.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Rangamati Civil Surgeon Nuen Khisa. The event was attended by special guests including Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Kajal Talukdar, Rangamati Zone Commander Lt Col Md Ekramul Rahat, Additional Deputy Commissioner Alamgir Hossain, Public Works Department Executive Engineer Shormi Chakma, Additional Superintendent of Police Iqbal Hossain, Rangamati Medical College Principal Preeti Prasun Barua and Rangamati General Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Shawkat Akbar.
