State Minister for Shipping Razib Ahsan called upon newly trained sailors to represent the country with pride.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at passing out ceremony parade of the 2nd batch of trainee ratings at National Maritime Institute (NMI) in Madaripur on Thursday.
Addressing the sailors, he said, “When you work on foreign-flagged ships, do not think of yourselves as mere sailors, but as individual ambassadors of Bangladesh.”
Through the ceremony held at the institute’s own campus, 95 trainees officially completed their training and are now preparing to enter their professional careers. Prizes were subsequently distributed among the meritorious trainees.
The ceremony was also addressed by Member of Parliament for Madaripur-2 Jahandar Ali Miah, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Zakaria, and Director General of the Department of Shipping Commodore Md Shafiul Bari. The welcome address was delivered by the Principal of the institute Marine Engineer Md Shahidullah.
The event was attended by local and foreign ship owners, shipping agents, officials from various military and civil levels, and the guardians of the trainees.
