Parliament Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for being named among the world’s 100 most influential people in TIME Magazine.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam moved a congratulatory motion on a point of order before the House was adjourned, with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal presiding over the sitting.
In his remarks, the Chief Whip said the people had elected Tarique Rahman to parliament with a landslide mandate, and his inclusion in the TIME list had further elevated the country’s image internationally.
He said the New York-based weekly published the list on Wednesday, describing the recognition as a matter of national pride.
Referring to the prime minister’s return after a prolonged stay abroad, Nurul Islam said Rahman had succeeded in restoring public confidence and leading his party to victory in the national election.
He added that the government had already initiated the implementation of key electoral commitments soon after assuming office.
Following the motion, the deputy speaker endorsed the congratulatory message and conveyed gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the House.
TIME Magazine recently included Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman in its list of the 100 most influential people of 2026 under the “Leaders” category, alongside prominent global figures.
