Police have arrested a man with counterfeit currency worth Tk 40 lakh from the Sadarghat Launch Terminal area in the capital.
The arrested has been identified as Ali Asgar Sikder, 23, reads a press release.
According to Kotwali Police Station, on Tuesday around 8:30pm, local people detained the suspect at Gate No. 9 of the Sadarghat Launch Terminal on suspicion of carrying fake currency and informed police.
Acting on the information, a police team rushed to the spot and took him into custody. During a search, fake currency notes worth Tk40 lakh were recovered from his possession.
Police said preliminary verification indicated that the seized notes were counterfeit. During primary questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to being involved in fake currency trading for a long time.
He was later sent to court, police added, the release added.
