The Forest Department seized three locally made firearms and four rounds of ammunition during a special drive in the deep forests of the Sundarbans Satkhira Range on Friday.
No miscreants were arrested during the raid as they managed to flee into the dense forest.
The drive was carried out in the Baintola area of Kanchir Khal, under the jurisdiction of the Kobadak Station. Forest officials informed journalists of the recovery on Friday night after the operational team returned to the locality.
According to Forest Department sources, a joint team from the Kobadak and Burigoalini stations launched the drive on the basis of secret information that a group of forest pirates was preparing to carry out a robbery. Sensing the presence of the officials, the robbers attempted to flee, prompting a chase that led to an exchange of seven rounds of gunfire. They eventually escaped deeper into the forest. Later, the officials recovered three country-made firearms and four cartridges from the spot.
Mashiur Rahman, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) for the Sundarbans Satkhira Range, confirmed the incident, stating that the Forest Department maintains a strict stance against crime. He added that regular drives have been intensified to protect wildlife and forest resources.
The seized firearms and ammunition are being handed over to the Shyamnagar Police Station, while preparations to file a case are underway.
