Authorities seized 4,500 litres of hoarded petrol from an unauthorised dealer in Narayanganj on Thursday, following a tip off provided by an intelligence agency.

According to the Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md Raihan Kabir, the fuel had been supplied from the Meghna Depot on 8 April and was officially issued for Rumi Filling Station in Shibaloy Upazila.

However, allegations surfaced that the petrol was not unloaded at the designated station but was instead diverted to another dealer.

An investigation carried out by the Shibaloy Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) confirmed that while the dealer lacked the necessary permission to sell petrol, he had been regularly procuring supplies under the name of Rumi Filling Station to conduct secret sales.

Upon verifying the facts, the UNO seized the entire quantity of petrol and placed it in the custody of Shibaloy police. The UNO further directed police officials to initiate a regular case regarding the matter.

Legal proceedings are currently underway, according to a press release signed by Muhammad Arif Sadeq, Information and Public Relations Officer.
