Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that bills are being passed in the Parliament without adequate discussion.

Speaking on a point of order during the parliamentary session on Thursday, the opposition leader questioned the justification for remaining in Parliament if the opportunity to speak is restricted.

He stated that bills containing “dissenting opinions” are not being properly debated, and the limited time provided makes it impossible to effectively present viewpoints.

According to Shafiqur Rahman, while those proposing the bills receive a disproportionately higher amount of time, the opposition is not granted sufficient time, which he argued is limiting the scope for parliamentary debate.

He further remarked that the significance of attending sessions is diminished if effective debate is not maintained. Consequently, he demanded that the government ensure opposition members are given ample opportunity to deliver their speeches.

In response to these allegations, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed stated that the current time allocation follows established parliamentary precedents. He noted that the time for raising objections has already been increased from two minutes to six minutes.

The Speaker added that while time for clause-by-clause amendment discussions remains limited, he maintains a positive outlook regarding further increasing the time for opposition objections in light of their proposals.
