The LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh (LOAB) on Wednesday has urged distributors and retailers to sell liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at the government-fixed price following reports of overcharging at the consumer level.
The association made the call in a press release following a Ministry of Commerce letter dated 7 April flagged that LPG cylinders were being sold above the set price in different parts of the country.
The statement said LPG bottling companies are supplying cylinders at the government-determined price, indicating that the irregularities are occurring at the distribution and retail stages.
Authorities have already moved to address the issue, with the National Consumer Rights Protection Department and Deputy Commissioners across the country instructed to take action against the violations and enforce strict legal measures.
“Ensuring LPG is sold at the government-determined price is a moral responsibility at a time when consumers are under pressure from the global energy crisis,” said LOAB President Mohammed Amirul Haque.
The association called on all stakeholders in the LPG supply chain to comply with the pricing directive to reduce public suffering and maintain market discipline.
