A woman has been detained in the capital’s Mirpur area for allegedly posting rumours on social media claiming a transaction of approximately Tk12,000 crore involving the case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
A team led by Prosecutor Tanveer Zoha detained the individual, identified as Ismat Jerin, wife of MH Patwary Babu, from Senpara in Mirpur-10 on Wednesday. Sources confirmed the matter to TIMES of Bangladesh.
During the operation, a mobile device was recovered from Jerin. A preliminary digital inspection revealed that the device had active access to a “Public Figure” Facebook profile under the name “MH Patwary.”
The account is reportedly jointly managed and controlled by Jerin and her husband, Patwary Babu.
According to prosecution sources, the account was used to publish content that is preliminarily considered contemptuous of the tribunal and serves to undermine judicial authority.
The prosecution has cited photographic documentation from the recovered device, the suspect’s physical possession of the device, and signs of active communication as evidence.
Earlier on Tuesday, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued an arrest warrant against MH Patwary Babu after taking the contempt of court allegations into cognisance. The tribunal also directed that necessary action be taken against those who liked, commented on, or shared the controversial post.
