Police have arrested Ariful Islam Arif, the key suspect in an attack on Masum Billah, secretary of Library and Cafeteria Affairs of Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu).
Arif was arrested in the capital around 6pm on Saturday during an operation, said Zahidur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station.
OC Zahidur said two persons were directly involved in the attack on the Cucsu leader. “We have arrested the mastermind and the prime accused,” he said, adding that another suspect confessed the two of them carried out the attack.
On 31 March, police arrested Jalal Uddin Munna near Hathazari Madrasa. Munna was granted bail and released on 2 April.
The attack took place on the night of 30 March when Masum was refuelling his motorcycle at a filling station in Hathazari. He was seriously injured and admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
