Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir has handed over a personal letter from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed to the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during a meeting with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi in Doha.
The foreign adviser arrived in the Qatari capital on Monday as the prime minister’s special envoy.
In the letter, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman conveyed Bangladesh’s solidarity with Qatar’s leadership, government, and people in light of the current regional situation. He also expressed appreciation for Qatar’s continued hosting of approximately 450,000 Bangladeshi expatriates and for measures taken by Qatari authorities to ensure their safety and well-being.
The prime minister mentioned Bangladesh’s readiness to extend any necessary assistance should Qatar deem it useful, according to the press release.
Tarique Rahman also recalled with deep appreciation the Amir’s gesture of arranging special air ambulances in January and May 2025 for the transfer of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia to London for urgent medical treatment.
During the meeting, the foreign adviser appreciated Qatar’s constructive role in promoting peace, dialogue, and humanitarian diplomacy. They discussed the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries and reviewed avenues for deepening cooperation in various fields of mutual interest.
The foreign adviser also met Qatari Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri. He conveyed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s condolences over a recent bereavement in the minister’s family following a military helicopter crash last week.
During the meeting, he invited the labour minister to visit Bangladesh at his convenience.
Later, the foreign adviser visited the Bangladesh Embassy in Doha and discussed matters relating to the welfare of Bangladeshi nationals residing in Qatar.
Humaiun Kobir is expected to visit several other Gulf countries after Qatar, the release added.
