Warner Bros. has moved the release of its live-action hybrid comedy ‘Animal Friends’ to January 22, 2027. The film was previously scheduled for May 1. Earlier, it was set for release for October 10, 2025.
Directed by Peter Atencio from a script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, the road-trip adventure stars Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery and Ellie Bamber. The project is produced by Legendary, Maximum Effort and Prime Focus Studios, and was originally developed at Sony Pictures before moving to Warner Bros. in 2024.
Atencio is known for the comedies ‘Keanu’ (2016) and ‘The Machine’ (2023), as well as the Apple TV+ series ‘The Afterparty’. Reynolds recently led ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ (2024), the year’s second-highest-grossing global release and will appear in Apple TV’s Mayday later this year.
Momoa was seen in ‘A Minecraft Movie’ (2025) and ‘The Wrecking Crew’ (2026), with upcoming roles in ‘Supergirl’, ‘Street Fighter’ and ‘Dune: Part Three’. Plaza most recently starred in ‘Honey Don’t!’ alongside Margaret Qualley, Charlie Day and Chris Evans.
