Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed the Probashi Kallyan Bank to provide loan facilities up to Tk10 lakh to students seeking higher education abroad.

The State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque Nur shared the information with journalists following a meeting with the prime minister at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

The Secretariat resumed its activities following the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

In the afternoon, the prime minister attended a review meeting focused on the progress of the committee formed to enhance overseas employment and expatriate welfare.

Following the session, the state minister confirmed that the prime minister has issued instructions to offer bank guarantees or loans up to Tk10 lakh for students heading overseas for higher studies.

The state minister further noted that government-level discussions are ongoing to increase employment opportunities in European countries and to reopen closed labour markets, including Malaysia.

He added that the government is actively working to dismantle syndicates involved in the recruitment of workers for overseas placement.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived at the Cabinet Division at 9am. His first engagement was a meeting with Krishna Srinivasan, the director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Asia and Pacific Department.

During the meeting, they discussed the country’s current economic situation and prevailing challenges. Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury was also present during the discussion.
