The Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 104 passengers from a passenger launch that became stranded on a shoal in the Meghna River in Chandpur early Tuesday.

The vessel, MV Sugandha, lost control due to strong winds and got stuck near Char Bhairabi under Haimchar Police Station around  4am on Tuesday.

The Coast Guard was alerted to the situation after a passenger on board the launch called the national emergency service number, 999, to seek assistance.

Following the distress call, a rescue team from Coast Guard Station Kaliganj conducted an operation in the area. All 104 stranded passengers were safely transported via trawler to the Ilisha Launch Ghat.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, media officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the details of the operation on Tuesday night. He stated that the Coast Guard remains dedicated to public service and will continue these efforts in the future.
