Gazipur’s major highways saw smooth traffic on Wednesday, providing relief for homebound Eid travellers.
From early morning, heavy flows of vehicles were observed on the Dhaka–Tangail and Dhaka–Mymensingh highways as people travelled to northern districts to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
Despite the volume, traffic movement remained largely normal, though slow-moving vehicles were reported at key points such as Chandana Chowrasta and major bus terminals due to passenger boarding.
At Chandana Tri-Mor, vehicle queues stretching several kilometres formed in the morning, but police said the delays were caused by boarding activity rather than major congestion.
Unlike previous years, the stretch from Nabinagar to Chandana experienced no significant traffic jams.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police and district police deployed additional personnel along the highways. Around 1,000 metropolitan police and 859 district police officers, along with highway police, industrial police, and volunteers, are maintaining order, said Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Israil Howlader.
Authorities are coordinating with other agencies to ensure safe and comfortable travel, enforcing measures against illegal parking, random passenger boarding, and unauthorised vehicles. Factory holidays in the garment sector have also been staggered to reduce pressure on highways.
However, many passengers complained that transport operators are charging higher fares than usual for various destinations.
