Two children died after drowning in a pond in Meherpur’s Gangni upazila on Tuesday, in a tragic incident that has shocked the local community.
The incident took place in Mailmari village, where the victims — four-year-old Yusuf Ali, son of van driver Akash Ali, and three-year-old Adib Hossain, son of neighbour Abbas Ali — were playing together inside their homes.
According to locals, the children slipped out unnoticed while playing and went near a nearby pond. When family members could not find them, they began searching and later recovered the children from the pond.
They were taken to Gangni Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor confirmed their deaths.
Gangni Upazila Health Complex Emergency Department duty doctor Faruk Ahmed said the children had died before being brought to the hospital.
The hospital authorities later handed over the bodies to their families.
