A total of 320 flights have been cancelled at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport following the security situation in the Middle East that led several countries to close their airspace.
Airport officials said Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan closed their airspace after the crisis that began on 28 February, forcing airlines to cancel a large number of international flights from Dhaka.
According to airport data, 23 flights were cancelled on 28 February, followed by 40 on 1 March, 46 on 2 March and 39 on 3 March.
Another 28 flights were cancelled on 4 March, 36 on 5 March, 34 on 6 March, and 28 flights each on 7 March and 8 March.
Airport authorities also said 18 more flights scheduled after midnight on 9 March were cancelled.
The cancelled flights include two Kuwait Airways services, six Air Arabia flights to Sharjah, two Gulf Air flights to Bahrain, four Qatar Airways flights and four Emirates flights bound for the United Arab Emirates.
In total, 320 flights have so far been cancelled from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport due to the regional crisis.
Officials warned that more cancellations could occur in the coming days if the situation persists.
