PM to decide on CHT peace accord: Minister Helal

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will decide on the remaining issues of the Chattogram Hill Tracts Peace Accord, said State Minister in charge of the Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin on Sunday.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after a law and order meeting at the Chattogram Circuit House.

“The issues that remain pending regarding the Hill Tracts peace accord are being reviewed by the Prime Minister. The matter was not discussed in the meeting,” he said.

He said the meeting was a routine coordination session with law enforcement agencies and did not include discussions on the implementation of the remaining provisions of the peace accord.

The meeting was chaired by Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia.

The state minister said the government is working under a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of crime in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.

Administrative measures have helped keep various issues, including commodity prices, under control in Chattogram, which he described as a success of the government.

Referring to the upcoming Eid, he said the government is taking steps to maintain normal law and order during the period.

He added that all necessary initiatives will continue to ensure security in Chattogram before and after Eid.
