Education and Primary & Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milton and UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh Dr Susan Vize held a high-level meeting on Sunday to discuss strengthening cooperation to improve the quality of education in the country.

The discussions focused on enhancing the overall standard of education, preventing student dropouts, and ensuring quality learning. Both parties emphasised the implementation of a mandatory uniform education system and various aspects of qualitative educational development.

During the meeting, particular importance was placed on protecting the mental health of students, improving teacher skills to ensure quality education, and increasing the effectiveness of the education system.

Milton expressed his optimism about working closely with development partners. He stated, “We will review ongoing projects intended for educational development. Our goal is to ensure utility and effectiveness, rather than merely spending funds.”

He further informed that initiatives would be taken to review the curriculum to modernise the national education system.

Addressing the issue of administrative complexities and “red tape,” the minister urged UNESCO representatives to contact him directly to bypass such hurdles, assuring them of swift and effective action.

The meeting was also attended by Education Secretary Abdul Khalek and senior officials from the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
