Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted he felt a sense of relief after his side secured a 3–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. in the fifth round of the FA Cup, bouncing back from a disappointing defeat earlier in the week.
Goals from Andrew Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones ensured Liverpool progressed to the quarter-finals while avenging their embarrassing 2–1 Premier League defeat to Wolves just three days earlier.
The victory provided a much-needed lift for Liverpool during what has been a turbulent season. Currently sixth in the Premier League standings, the club remain in contention for both the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
Speaking after the match, Slot acknowledged the emotional swings of Liverpool’s campaign.
“Every three days I have a different feeling. Three days ago my feeling was completely different to now,” he said.
“It’s good to be in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. In three or four days we have another big match in Istanbul.”
Liverpool now turn their focus to their Champions League last-16 first-leg clash against Galatasaray S.K. next Tuesday.
Slot praised Robertson for his influential performance and suggested the Scotland international remains a key figure in the squad.
“Andy did his job very well today. He’s very valuable — first for the quality he brings, and also for his personality. If he has to play, he always delivers.”
The Dutch coach also highlighted the impact of highly rated 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, who impressed with his energy and attacking intent.
“It’s special because if you’re 17 years old and can influence a match between two Premier League teams, that shows how good you are,” Slot said.
“But it’s up to him to maintain that level consistently. This performance should give him a lot of confidence, especially in away games.”
Despite the victory, Slot expressed frustration at conceding a late goal to Hwang Hee-chan following a defensive lapse.
“It’s very frustrating because we hardly gave away any chances, but we still conceded a goal,” he said.
Nevertheless, the result sends Liverpool into the FA Cup quarter-finals with renewed momentum as they aim to salvage silverware from an inconsistent season.
