Flight disruptions hit Dhaka as Middle East conflict forces airspace closures, with 39 flights canceled at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.
In total, 102 flights have been cancelled since Saturday.
Monday’s cancellations included four Qatar Airways flights, five Emirates flights, two Gulf Air flights, four Flydubai flights, two Kuwait Airways flights, eight Air Arabia flights (Sharjah), four Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights, and ten US‑Bangla Airlines flights.
Sunday saw the highest number of cancellations, with 40 flights grounded. These involved services from Jazeera Airways, Emirates, Gulf Air, Flydubai, Qatar Airways, SalamAir, Air Arabia, Kuwait Airways, US‑Bangla Airlines, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines. On Saturday, 23 flights were canceled, including those operated by Emirates, Gulf Air, Flydubai, Air Arabia, US‑Bangla Airlines, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Airport authorities said some flights have been rescheduled, but uncertainty remains. Passengers have been advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates before traveling.
The disruption follows Israel’s surprise attack on Iran early Saturday, which triggered a regional security crisis. In response, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan temporarily closed their airspace. This has directly affected flights between South Asia and the Middle East, leading to widespread cancellations in Dhaka.
