Tamim Iqbal said he is very hopeful that real change will come to sports in the country. He believes the current government has given strong importance to sports.
Tamim has recently retired from cricket. He has now started a new journey as a sports organiser. On Friday, he joined the iftar programme of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association.
At the event, Tamim spoke about his relationship with the media. He described it as a balance between praise and criticism.
“Love and hate relationship, it should not be only about liking or only about hating. I hope we maintain this relationship. Because if I or they cannot take criticism, then none of us will learn from it. If we only receive love, we will never know what mistakes we are making,” he said.
He also spoke directly to the journalists.
“I want to tell the journalists one thing. When I was a cricketer and now as I walk the path of becoming an organiser, I always believe in this love and hate relationship with you. If I play well, you will like it. If I play badly, you will say it is bad. I think this is the healthiest relationship.”
Tamim ended on a hopeful note about the future of sports.
“As a player, organiser and sports journalist, we are all lucky. Because we have a government where one of the first three or four priority points was sports. I am personally very hopeful that we will truly see change in sports now.”
