State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Agriculture, and Food, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, has urged the public to maintain their trust in the BNP government, stating that the administration is working with the utmost sincerity for the welfare of the people.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, we are working from our respective positions for the benefit of the citizens,” Tuku said while addressing the introduction ceremony of the newly elected executive committee of Tangail Press Club and an Iftar Mahfil on Friday.
The event, where he spoke as the chief guest, was held at press club VIP lounge.
Regarding the media, the state minister remarked that the government maintains a highly liberal and positive stance toward press freedom, asserting that there is no interference in the work of the media.
He assured that journalists can perform their professional duties with complete independence and neutrality.
Tuku further emphasised the importance of responsible journalism, noting that the media plays a crucial role in national development, upholding democratic values, and maintaining social order.
He expressed hope that journalists would take a leading role in nation-building through objective and fact-based reporting.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to the agricultural sector, Tuku described the recent waiver of agricultural loans (including interest) up to Tk 10,000 for marginal farmers as a “landmark step.”
He stated that this decision would provide immediate economic relief to small and marginal farmers.
The state minister noted that various development initiatives promised by the Prime Minister are being implemented, including the ongoing distribution of Family Cards and Farmers’ Cards to bolster social security and agricultural support.
He added that necessary measures have been taken to ensure that fertilisers, pesticides, and other agricultural inputs are available at affordable prices to reduce production costs.
Recalling pre-election pledges, the state minister mentioned that the administration has initiated coordinated activities to make Tangail free from extortionists, juvenile gangs, and drugs. He stated that strict measures are being taken to maintain law and order and social stability.
Tuku sought the cooperation of the press, noting that positive social change is possible through responsible journalism. He also requested journalists to refrain from publishing news that might hinder ongoing development activities or initiatives related to the public interest.
The meeting was presided over by the President of Tangail Press Club, Ataur Rahman Azad.
Special guests included Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Tangail Superintendent of Police Muhammed Shamsul Alam Sarkar, and Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shahin.
Government and non-government officials, political leaders, and journalists were also present there.
