State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain on Saturday called on citizens to avoid controversy over the first-time tribute paid by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Central Shaheed Minar.
“Today, on the occasion of the Great Martyrs and International Mother Language Day, everyone is paying their respects at the Shaheed Minar. There is no need for debate over Jamaat’s participation,” Ishraque said after paying homage to the Language Movement martyrs early in the morning.
He stressed the importance of national unity over division. “Whatever the reasons, they have expressed regret for their past positions, both at home and abroad” he said.
“Their words may not appeal to everyone. But should we continue to hold on to this division, split the nation, and lead it once again towards destruction, as happened under the Awami League? Or will we unite to resolve the country’s crises, which was the true purpose of the Liberation War?” he asked.
Minister Hossain made a strong appeal for harmony and urged citizens to focus on the spirit of Ekushey rather than engage in political or social disputes over Jamaat’s tribute.
