Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the Nagorik Oikkya-nominated candidate for the Dhaka-18 constituency, has withdrawn his candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary election.

Manna, who is currently in Bogura, confirmed that he will now only contest the polls from the Bogura-2 seat.

Explaining his decision, Manna cited the immense scale and the prohibitive costs associated with campaigning in the Dhaka-18 constituency. He noted that the area is vast, encompassing seven and a half police stations and approximately 650,000 voters.

“The election is so expensive that it is not possible for me to manage the costs,” Manna stated. He further clarified that while he had initially decided to run for both Dhaka-18 and Bogura-2 due to a “special situation,” the financial reality of the Dhaka seat led to his strategic withdrawal.

Manna also expressed his regrets to his supporters in the capital who might be disappointed by the move. “Many may be hurt by this decision. I express my apologies to them,” he said.
