Ashraful, who was shot during the July uprising and had been undergoing treatment for one and a half years, died on Sunday morning.
He passed away at 8am while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka.
Ashraful, 32, was a CNG driver by profession. His namaz‑e‑janaza is scheduled to be held after Asr prayers at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
Earlier, on 5 August 2024, Ashraful was shot in the head during the student‑people uprising in Mirpur‑10. He was rescued in critical condition and initially treated in the country before being flown to Thailand for advanced medical care.
Family and hospital sources said the victim remained under close observation of specialist doctors in Thailand for 14 months. He was brought back to Bangladesh on 4 February and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital.
