Jamaat-e-Islami has announced its manifesto for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, outlining a comprehensive plan for national governance with a strong focus on the values of the 1971 Liberation War, the July Revolution, and the welfare of women and children.
The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, presented the manifesto on Wednesday evening at the Hotel Sheraton in Banani, Dhaka, highlighting the party’s priorities if it comes to power.
Honouring the July Revolution and Liberation War, the manifesto commits to establishing the core ideals of the Great Liberation War – equality, human dignity, and social justice – within the state and national life.
The party also pledged to ensure that the accurate history of the Liberation War is taught to students. To honour the July Revolution, a “July Mass Uprising Directorate” will be established, which will be managed transparently using modern digital technology.
This directorate will oversee monthly grants and allowances for martyrs and fighters of the July movement, as well as housing and rehabilitation for their families. Furthermore, the government will bear all medical expenses for injured and crippled fighters from the state treasury.
Safety and empowerment for women
The protection and empowerment of women and children are given special priority in the manifesto. A National Women Protection Task Force will be formed to take immediate action against violence.
To ensure the safety of women in public transport, the party plans to introduce CCTV cameras, separate bus services, emergency call numbers, and emergency poles.
In terms of economic empowerment, the government will provide support for women-led projects such as poultry, livestock, and fish farming.
Additionally, urban planning will be made more inclusive with the provision of breastfeeding corners, separate toilets, and prayer facilities in public spaces.
Social welfare and legal reforms Jamaat-e-Islami intends to establish women’s health centres and sports training centres in every district.
To protect women’s inheritance, a “Property Protection Committee” will be formed, and special tribunals will be set up for the speedy trial of cases involving violence against women and children.
Victims will receive legal, psychological, and financial assistance through one-stop crisis centres at district hospitals.
The manifesto also includes promises for the rehabilitation and training of the Hijra community, health and nutrition for underprivileged pregnant and lactating women, and vocational training for children with special needs.
Notably, the party has pledged that no VAT will be imposed on baby food.
