Wife of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, Zubaida Rahman, has told voters that they can expect an “equality-based state” if BNP comes to power.
She said this after listening to problems from the residents of the Karail-Bhashantek-Sattala area of Dhaka-17 at an event in Hatirjhil on Wednesday afternoon.
She said, “You have told us about your problems at an event. We should try to know each other more. How to solve these problems properly and present a beautiful equality-based, knowledge-based, labour-based state.”
She said, “We want to present such a society, such a state, where the people come before the leaders.”
Thanking the people from various professions for gathering together at the event, she said, “So far we have heard the heart-wrenching problems from three sisters from Bhashantek, Karail, and Sattala, heard the heart-wrenching problems from two garment workers, and the story of a transport worker. The problems here are many. I, you, all of us have problems. Solving these problems is possible through proper planning.”
Zubaida Rahman said, “Our politics is the politics of proper planning. Now it is the new sunrise of our glory. Before ‘I’, there is ‘we’; before us, there is ‘country’; before power, there is ‘people’; before everything, there is ‘Bangladesh’; before discrimination, there is ‘equality’; for all, there is ‘equal opportunity, dignity of labor’. We want to give everyone dignity of labor, recognition of merit, merit-based jobs and rights and justice.”
Tarique Rahman is contesting in the 13th national parliamentary election in Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies. This exchange of views meeting was organised at the open gallery of the Hatirjhil Amphitheater by the election steering professional committee for Dhaka-17 constituency.
People from various professions from Karail, Bhashantek, and Sattala, including working rickshaw pullers, bus drivers, garment workers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, agriculturists, bankers, sisters associations, participated. At the beginning of the event, a special prayer was held seeking mercy for the soul of the late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
At the event, the speakers highlighted various problems of their respective areas, especially road development, proper sewerage system, construction of playgrounds, establishment of hospitals, setting up daycare centers in industrial establishments, stopping oppression and persecution of female workers in industries, solving traffic congestion, permanent rehabilitation of slum dwellers, eliminating ongoing corruption in obtaining public transport driving licenses, improving street lighting in this area, among other issues.
The event was presided over by Farhad Halim Donor, Executive Director of Ziaur Rahman Foundation. Speakers at the event included BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Tarique Rahman’s chief election agent for Dhaka-17 constituency Abdus Salam, Ziaur Rahman Foundation Director Syeda Tajnin Waris Shimki, Bhashantek resident homemaker Tania Akhtar, Fatema Akhtar Bithi, a student of Titumir College from Karail Ideal Nagar, Nargis Akhtar, a student of South East University from Sattala area, garment workers Mirza Al Shamim and Fatema Khatun, and transport worker Ruhul Amin Babu, among others.
