A local leader of BNP was detained with a cache of sharp weapons during a joint security force raid in Fulchhari Upazila of Gaibandha on Thursday.

The detainee has been identified as Milon Mia, 44, the Vice-President of Kanchipara Union BNP. He is the son of the late Mesher Uddin Sarkar, a resident of South Rasulpur village in the Kanchipara Union.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint forces conducted a raid on Mia’s residence in Rasulpur village, located in the Balashighat area. During the operation, security personnel recovered and seized four cleavers, a Chinese axe, and a large knife from his possession.

Durul Hoda, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fulchhari Police Station, confirmed the matter.

He stated that the seized weapons are in police custody and a case will be filed against the detainee under the Arms Act.

Following the completion of the necessary legal processes, Mia will be produced before the court to be sent to jail.
