BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has declared that while individuals who have committed injustices will face punishment, the party will “embrace” ordinary citizens.
He made the remarks at an election campaign rally at Molani Bazar in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
He remarked that Sheikh Hasina had fled to Delhi, leaving her supporters behind, and assured the public that the BNP would rescue them from the resulting dangers.
Regarding the electoral contest, Fakhrul highlighted that despite the absence of the ‘Boat‘ symbol, the party would now face an opponent using the “Daripalla”(Scales) symbol. He recalled that the “Scales” symbol had won very few votes in the 1991 elections.
Describing the BNP as a “tested party,” Fakhrul emphasised his long-standing relationship with the local people, with whom he has worked for many years. He pledged that, if elected, he would focus on the development of Thakurgaon, including the establishment of new factories and the improvement of healthcare by setting up high-quality hospitals.
The Secretary General expressed hope for a fair election where voters would be able to freely exercise their rights and choose their preferred candidates. He contrasted this with past elections, where, he claimed, “fascist Hasina” had manipulated the process, taking all the votes.
In a significant statement, Fakhrul announced that this would be his final election. He made a heartfelt appeal to the constituents, asking for their support and requesting that they vote for the “Sheaf of Paddy” (Dhaner Sheesh) symbol to grant him one final opportunity to serve the community.
The rally was attended by BNP leaders and activists from various tiers of the party.
