BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has announced that his party intends to launch student loan facilities specifically designed to assist those pursuing higher education overseas.
Speaking at a “Youth Policy Talk” held at a hotel in the port city on Sunday, the BNP leader highlighted that many students face significant financial hurdles when seeking to study abroad.
He addressed a gathering of approximately 450 university students, where he stressed the importance of fulfilling political pledges. Tarique remarked that failure to make genuine efforts to implement promises leads to a loss of public confidence in political organisations.
During the session, the BNP chairman responded to student queries regarding education, employment, governance, and national development.
On the topic of vocational skills, specifically in response to a student from the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), he stated that the party would identify global demands for specific vocational roles over the next five to ten years to integrate them into the national curriculum.
Tarique further explained that enhancing the quality of workforce exports requires comprehensive training and language education.
Regarding general education reforms, he proposed connecting schools via audio-visual technology, allowing students across the nation to access lessons from the country’s best educators. Additionally, he pledged to provide modern equipment to facilitate teacher training.
Addressing governance, the BNP leader asserted that development initiatives would falter without a strengthened law enforcement system and the eradication of corruption.
He noted that extortion has permeated various levels of society and advocated for a zero-tolerance policy against corruption to significantly reduce such criminal activities.
On the healthcare front, Tarique argued that simply constructing hospitals is not a sustainable strategy. Instead, the BNP aims to foster health awareness at the grassroots level by deploying healthcare workers to provide community-based services.
