The partner party National Citizen Party (NCP) of the 10-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami has announced 27 candidates for the upcoming election, out of the 30 seats obtained through agreement.
It has been informed on behalf of the NCP that the names of candidates for the remaining three seats will be announced soon.
Posters with the names and pictures of these 27 candidates were published on the NCP’s verified Facebook page on Sunday, as it asked for votes in favour of its party candidates under the “Water Lily Bud” (shapla koli) symbol.
Notable among the announced candidates are party convener Nahid Islam for Dhaka-11, member secretary Akhter Hossen for Rangpur-4, chief organiser of the southern region Hasnat Abdullah for Cumilla-4, chief organiser of the northern region Sarjis Alam for Panchagarh-1, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary for Dhaka-8, and party senior joint chief coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud for Noakhali-6.
Additionally, Ariful Islam Adib for Dhaka-18, Mahbub Alam for Lakshmipur-1, SM Saif Mostafiz for Sirajganj-6, Sarwar Tushar for Narsingdi-2, Abdullah Al Amin for Narayanganj-4, SM Suja Uddin for the hilly Bandarban constituency, Maulana Ashraf Mahdi for Brahmanbaria-2, Jubairul Hasan Arif for Chattogram-8, and Mohammad Ataullah for Brahmanbaria-3 will contest.
The list also includes Md Abdul Ahad for Dinajpur-5, Sultan Muhammad Zakaria for Noakhali-2, Dilshana Parul for Dhaka-19, Nabila Tasnid for Dhaka-20, Atik Mujahid for Kurigram-2, Zahidul Islam for Mymensingh-11, Saifullah Haider for Tangail-3, Javed Rasin for Dhaka-9, Ali Nasher Khan for Gazipur-2, Majedul Islam for Munshiganj-2, Shameem Hamidi for Pirojpur-3, and SM Zargis Kadir for Natore-3.
Last Thursday, during a press conference in the capital, the 10-party alliance, including Jamaat and NCP, announced an electoral agreement for 253 seats. 47 NCP hopefuls had submitted nomination papers for the 30 seats allocated to the NCP by the Jamaat-led alliance.
Although Islami Andolan Bangladesh was supposed to join the alliance, they stepped back at the very last moment due to disagreements over seat-sharing.
