A court has ordered two Ansar members, Md Abu Saeed and Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, to be sent to jail in connection with the incident of a housewife being raped at the Manikganj 250-bed General Hospital.
On Tuesday afternoon, the accused gave their statement under section 164 at the courts of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Habibur Rahman and Sajib Chowdhury. Later, the court ordered them to be sent to jail.
Manikganj Police Superintendent Mohammad Sarwar Alam stated that around 2am on Sunday, a man was traveling with his wife from Narayanganj to his in-laws’ house in the Betila area of Manikganj Sadar Upazila via his own battery-operated van.
When they reached the Manikganj bus stand area, the van’s charge ran out. Concerned about safety, the husband and wife positioned themselves in front of the Manikganj 250-bed General Hospital.
At that time, Ansar members Shahadat Hossain and Abu Saeed, who were on duty at the hospital’s main gate, assured them of assistance and took them inside the hospital. Later, leaving the husband on the ground floor of the hospital’s 10-story building, the woman was taken to the building’s second floor. According to the allegation, there, the two Ansar members raped the woman after intimidating her.
After the incident, the victim woman came down to the ground floor and informed her husband about the matter. They then filed a complaint with the police.
Upon receiving the complaint, police went to the scene and summoned all Ansar members on duty at the hospital to the police station. When the victim woman identified the two accused Ansar members, they were arrested.
Later, after the couple reported the incident to police on patrol duty in the bus stand area at Sadar Police Station, police quickly went to the hospital and arrested the two accused Ansar members.
Police Superintendent Mohammad Sarwar Alam said, “Md Abu Saeed and Mohammad Shahadat Hossain have confessed to the rape to us. They have given their statement under section 164 in court. A police inspector has been assigned to investigate whether there are any further incidents behind this event.”
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Forces have permanently dismissed both Shahadat Hossain and Abu Saeed on.
