A court has imposed travel restrictions on former parliament members Selim Altaf George of Kushtia-4 (Kumarkhali-Khoksha) constituency and Kamarul Arefin of Kushtia-2 (Mirpur-Bheramara) constituency. Additionally, six bank accounts under Kamarul Arefin’s name have been frozen.
Kushtia’s Senior Special Judge Sumiya Khanam issued the orders on Wednesday in response to petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed the developments.
ACC sources revealed that on May 20, the commission sought travel bans against the former MPs, alleging they were attempting to flee the country. The petitions argued that restricting their movement was essential for proper investigation. After hearings, the court approved both requests – the travel ban and the account freeze.
Police arrested Selim Altaf from Dhaka’s Lalmatia area on September 17 night. He faces multiple cases against him in Dhaka and Kushtia. Kamarul Arefin has been in hiding since August 5 following the fall of the Awami League government and also faces several criminal cases.
