Complaints arose that voting in the Jagannath University Central Student Union (Jnucsu) election did not begin at the scheduled time and that campaign posters were pasted inside polling centres, violating election rules.
According to the university’s Election Commission announcement, voting was scheduled to begin at 9am. However, in several centres on the third floor of the JnU Shaheed Sajid Building, election activities did not start on time.
Polling centres in rooms 312, 313, 315, 316, and 317 remained closed until around 9:30am, our correspondent on the scene reported.
Several students who came to vote said they had to wait because the centres had not opened even after the scheduled time. When asked about the delay, the official in charge of room 316 could not provide a clear answer, saying only that voting would begin soon. Yet, even after some time, activities had not started.
Posters bearing candidates’ images were seen pasted on the doors of some polling centres. According to the Jnucsu election code of conduct, no posters or handbills may be affixed inside polling centres or on their walls.
When this was brought to the attention of the university’s Chief Election Commissioner, Mostafa Hasan, he said that pasting candidate posters on doors does not violate the code of conduct.
When informed that voting had still not started in some centres, Mostafa said the matter was being looked into.
