BNP Rangpur Divisional Organising Secretary Asadul Habib Dulu has said a free and fair election would be impossible as long as officials who benefited during what he termed the “fascist era” continue to serve in the administration and law enforcement agencies.
He made the remarks while speaking at a views exchange meeting with local journalists at the ‘Hamarbari’ office in Lalmonirhat on Monday afternoon. The meeting was organised under the slogan “Let tomorrow’s Lalmonirhat be an enlightened Lalmonirhat.”
The BNP leader expressed deep concern over the continued presence of such officials in key state institutions, questioning the credibility of any election conducted under their supervision.
Referring to the BNP’s development plans, he said the party would prioritise implementation of the Teesta Mega Plan if it comes to power, describing it as a long-standing demand of people in five districts of the Rangpur division. The project, he added, is vital for improving livelihoods in the northern region and protecting agriculture.
District BNP Acting General Secretary AKM Mominul Haque, Organising Secretary Afzal Hossain and Office Secretary Joynul Abedin Swapan were also present at the meeting.
Journalists from print, electronic and online media outlets in Lalmonirhat attended the event. Dulu urged the media to cooperate in efforts aimed at overall development and building a prosperous future for the district.
