Mohammedan Sporting Club and Brothers Union had to settle for a goalless draw in the Bangladesh Football League. Neither side could find a goal as the first phase of the league came to an end. Mohammedan began the new year by dropping points once again.
The match took place at the Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj. Mohammedan created a few early chances but could not turn them into goals. In the 10th minute, Brothers goalkeeper Ishak Akand came off his line and gathered the ball before Hafizur Rahman could reach a pass from Samuel Boateng.
Brothers nearly went ahead in the 15th minute. Anjan Bista scored, but the assistant referee flagged for offside. Mohammedan then faced the same frustration in the 43rd minute as Boateng found the net, only for the referee to disallow the goal.
Ishak remained busy after the break. In the 72nd minute, he blocked Boateng’s low shot with his feet from close range. Seven minutes later, Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujon Hossain moved well out of his goal, but Brothers attackers Marcos Rudwe and Arik Bista failed to convert the chance.
Mohammedan pushed late for a winner. Shafiul Hossain missed the target in the 82nd minute. Three minutes later, his angled pass reached Boateng, but the forward could not make clean contact. The draw extended Mohammedan’s run to three straight stalemates. They are sixth in the table with 10 points from nine matches. Brothers Union sit seventh with one point less.
