AB Bank PLC has inaugurated its 58th sub-branch in Baligaon Bazar, located at Aziz Plaza, Tongibari, Munshiganj, as part of its ongoing expansion strategy. The new outlet was launched virtually by Acting Managing Director and CEO Reazul Islam from the bank’s head office.
Senior bank officials attended the event, highlighting AB Bank’s continued focus on financial inclusion and service outreach in semi-urban areas.
The bank, one of the country’s oldest private commercial banks, is expanding its presence to better serve the corporate and SME sectors. Currently, around 25 per cent of AB Bank’s total loan portfolio is allocated to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which it views as vital to Bangladesh’s economic development.
To support this sector, the bank is prioritising service quality, portfolio growth, and credit discipline. The aim is to provide tailored financial solutions to SMEs while improving portfolio performance and expanding access to credit across the country.
AB Bank also offers Islamic banking services in compliance with Shariah principles. Its Islamic banking operations are managed under a separate structure, overseen by a dedicated Shariah Supervisory Committee led by Janab M Azizul Huq. Funds and accounts are maintained independently from conventional banking operations.
The bank launched its first dedicated Islami Banking Branch in December 2004 in Dhaka and has since expanded these services through selected conventional branches. AB Bank is a member of both the Islamic Banks Consultative Forum and the Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh.
The Islamic banking division continues to grow, offering profit-sharing investment opportunities and competitive returns to depositors, while avoiding interest-based transactions in line with Islamic financial principles.
