Home Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday announced a reward of Tk50 lakh for information on the attackers who shot Sharif Osman Hadi.
Hadi is a spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and an aspirant independent candidate from Dhaka‑8.
Jahangir disclosed the reward while speaking to journalists around 2pm.
Police have meanwhile initially identified one of the shooters and urged anyone with information about him to contact law enforcement, assuring that informants will be rewarded.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) shared the information in a press release issued on Saturday afternoon, saying the identity of the informant will be kept confidential and an appropriate reward will be given.
The attack took place around 2:15pm on Friday when Hadi was travelling by rickshaw in front of Bijaynagar in the capital. Two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.
Hadi was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and was later shifted to Evercare Hospital in the capital for further treatment. He is now on life support.
