Banglalink has received the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Bangladesh Bank to begin operating as a Payment Service Provider (PSP), enabling the mobile operator to enter the country’s expanding digital payments ecosystem.
The approval was confirmed through a company statement, which said the authorisation marks an important step in widening access to formal financial services and supporting Bangladesh’s shift towards a cashless economy.
Banglalink said millions of users will be able to access faster and safer financial services directly on their mobile devices, with the platform built on a high-capacity technology system and aligned with its DO1440 strategy of offering digital and financial services throughout the day.
The company said the service will initially provide instant money transfers, remittance support, utility and government bill payments, e-commerce and merchant transactions, salary disbursements and new offerings such as micro-savings and insurance premium payments.
A strong security framework has been built into the platform to ensure safe and seamless transactions, the statement said.
“We are shaping a secure and inclusive digital payment ecosystem for Bangladesh with Banglalink’s nationwide reach and VEON’s global capabilities,” said Banglalink Chief Executive Officer Johan Buse.
“Simple, safe and accessible digital financial services should be available to everyone, and guided by our DO1440 strategy we aim to keep essential services within reach,” he said.
He said Banglalink will continue advancing digital innovation that supports daily life, strengthens communities and accelerates the country’s transition to a connected and future-ready digital economy.
Banglalink, fully owned by global digital operator VEON, said the approval strengthens its commitment to promoting digital financial inclusion in Bangladesh.
The company said it is now preparing for the commercial rollout of its digital payment services in coordination with Bangladesh Bank and partner institutions.
