Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw on the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf highway. The accident occurred on Tuesday at the Ali Khali Road junction in Hnila Union of Teknaf.

The deceased are CNG driver Md Faruk (38), son of Md Selim from East Para of Moulvibazar in Hnila, Teknaf, and passenger Iman Hossain (40), son of Chhaid Nur from Nazir Para, Teknaf.

Quoting eyewitnesses, Whykong Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Absar said a CNG-run autorickshaw heading toward Teknaf from Hnila collided head-on with a fish-laden truck coming from Cox’s Bazar in the opposite direction.

The collision shattered the CNG and sent it veering into a deep roadside ditch. CNG driver Md Faruk and passenger Iman Hossain died at the scene.

Upon receiving the report, highway police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Teknaf Upazila Hospital.

OC Nurul Absar said initial assumptions suggest excessive speed and recklessness may have caused the accident, but the matter is under investigation.

Locals said frequent accidents occur on this busy stretch of the road and called for stricter speed control and increased monitoring.
