An international delegation has affirmed that shrimp products processed at the ACI Agrolink factory are equivalent to those from advanced European processing plants. The assessment came during a regional workshop visit organized under the European Union’s ‘Better Training for Safer Food’ (BTSF) program.
Delegates from eight EU and Asian countries visited the facility as part of the third day of a four-day training titled ‘BTSF SPS Non-EU Countries Bangladesh: Regional Workshop on Aquaculture. The event, funded by the EU and conducted by the Spanish Association for Standardization (AENOR), was implemented by ACI Agrolink Limited in collaboration with the Bangladesh Department of Fisheries.
The delegation, comprising 45 government representatives from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, alongside EU observers, toured the ACI Shrimp Genetics Nursery and the ACI Agrolink Shrimp Processing Factory.
They received detailed briefings on Post Larval nursing and the processing of export-ready shrimp to EU specifications said in a press release.
Following the visit, participants expressed satisfaction with ACI’s management and recognized its role in the Shrimp Value Chain. They commended the levels of food safety, quality, and biosecurity maintained in both nursing and processing, stating there was no difference between the factory and a European standard unit. Delegates indicated confidence in purchasing ACI Agrolink products at premium prices due to this high quality.
When asked by ACI Agrolink Business Director Mr Syed M Istiak for suggestions, a European Commission representative stated the company already maintains the highest standards, with the primary goal being continuity. The EU delegation presented a ‘Better Training for Safer Food (BTSF)’ certificate of appreciation to ACI Agrolink for maintaining these high standards. Senior officials from the Department of Fisheries, including Dr Md Khaled Kanak, and other district and upazila level fisheries officials, also attended the event.
