Ansar–VDP has distributed winter clothing to residents affected by the recent devastating fire at the Korail slum in Dhaka’s Mahakhali, providing 500 blankets as part of a humanitarian support effort on Saturday.
Saifullah Russel, Deputy Director General (Operations) of Ansar–VDP, attended the distribution event as chief guest at the Gulshan T&T Field, where he handed over blankets to affected families.
“This blanket distribution aims to ease the suffering of people who have lost everything in the cold and the fire,” he said. “We believe such humanitarian initiatives spread the message of cooperation and compassion in society.”
Earlier, on 28 November, an emergency humanitarian service centre was set up inside the Korail slum under the direction of Director General Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud.
Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar Director Md Asaduzzaman Gony inaugurated the centre and has been supervising its operation.
Since Friday, the centre has been distributing food twice daily to about two thousand people, a five-day programme meant to provide immediate relief to families struggling in the aftermath of the fire.
Highlighting the ongoing need for support, the Director General said, “Every winter, many families suffer due to a lack of warm clothing. It is our moral responsibility to stand beside people in crisis. We hope the blanket distribution brings some comfort to their lives.”
Ansar and the Village Defence Party reiterated their long-standing commitment to supporting people during difficult times and said their humanitarian services would continue in future crises as well.
