Fishermen in Baharchhara, Teknaf, caught a rare 166-kilogram Bhol fish (local name) on Thursday, which was later sold for Tk 1.8 lakh.
The giant fish was caught during the daily fishing routine in the sea. Fisherman Saiful Islam said it took considerable effort to haul the enormous catch.
“I have never seen such a big fish in my life. It was exhausting to bring it in,” he said.
Initially, the fish was priced at Tk 2 lakh. After bargaining, it was sold for Tk 1.8 lakh.
Saiful added, “Catching a fish of this size brings joy to fishermen despite the risks of life at sea.”
Local fish trader Karim Soudagar purchased the fish. He said preparations were underway to send it to Dhaka.
Locals noted that such large Bhol fish have not appeared in their nets for many years. The rare catch has sparked curiosity and excitement in the area.
Previously, on 22 November, a rare high-value black Croaker weighing 32 kilograms was caught in the nets of fisherman Abdul Gani off Saint Martin’s coast.
