The University of Dhaka is calling for a renewed focus on modernising medical education and embracing the profession as a service, as it convened a major meeting with leaders from its affiliated medical colleges.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan emphasised that medical education and healthcare are essential to human existence, requiring all stakeholders to collaborate on improving service quality. He made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting titled “Enhancing the Quality of MBBS and BDS Education” held at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Tuesday.
The necessity of curriculum development, transparent institutional management, and ensuring an effective learning environment were highlighted as key to modernising the sector, said in the press release. Professor Khan also stressed the importance of enhancing communication among relevant institutions and holding regular discussions with policymakers to overcome challenges in higher medical education.
The event was presided over by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Dr Md Mostaque Ahmad. Also, in attendance and delivering speeches were Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Saima Hoque Bidisha, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, and Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Sciences and Research Professor Dr Md Kamrul Alam.
Senior administrative officials, including Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmad, Acting Inspector of Colleges A.K.M. Amjad Hossain, and Acting Controller of Examinations Dr Himadri Shekhar Chakravarti, also participated in the meeting, which gathered chairmen of governing bodies and principals from the university’s affiliated medical colleges.
