Shakti Foundation has signed an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to strengthen education financing for adolescent girls and young women across Bangladesh.
Through the partnership, Shakti will support at least 50,000 girls and young women to continue their education and enhance their skills for gainful employment through tailored education-finance solutions, the foundation said in a press release.
As part of the initiative, Shakti Foundation is collaborating with Microsave Consulting (MSC), which will provide technical assistance and jointly design robust, inclusive and gender-responsive education-finance products aimed at young women.
The initiative forms a key component of ADB’s broader commitment to promoting economic growth, reducing poverty and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
The regional project spans Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and the Philippines, with a collective target of empowering 3,00,000 girls by expanding access to education and skills development.
Imran Ahmed, deputy executive director of Shakti Foundation, said the organisation is delighted to partner with ADB and MSC on the initiative.
He said Shakti has long been committed to empowering more than 5,50,000 women across 57 districts in Bangladesh.
He said the project’s outcomes will open new opportunities for young women, reduce child marriage and increase women’s participation in the labour force.
