Banglalink enabled free calls to all operators on Friday after the earthquake that jolted Dhaka and surrounding districts, allowing users to make more than 12 million minutes of outgoing calls, according to a press release.

The operator activated the measure shortly after the tremor as people struggled to reach family members. It announced the facility through its official Facebook page and followed up with SMS alerts so subscribers could connect immediately.

Banglalink said the response was introduced to help customers locate and reassure their loved ones during a period of widespread panic. The sharp surge in call volume reflected the urgency with which families attempted to communicate after the quake.

The company said the move is part of its ongoing commitment to support communities during emergencies. In past crises, Banglalink partnered with the Bangladesh Army to provide flood relief and distributed oral saline and drinking water during heatwaves.
