Bangladesh batsman Soumya Sarkar has been ruled out of today’s third and final T20 International against the UAE in Sharjah due to a persistent back injury.
The left-handed batter, who has been managing discomfort for the past week, has not recovered sufficiently to be considered for selection. Bangladesh National Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed the news in an official update.
“Soumya Sarkar has been dealing with back pain, particularly shifted to the right side, for the past seven days. Despite ongoing management and rehabilitation, his recovery has been progressing slowly,” Bayjedul stated.
He added, “After a comprehensive assessment over the last week, he remains unavailable for the third game of the series. He will require additional time to recover fully before returning to competitive action.”
Soumya’s absence is a blow for Bangladesh, who were hoping to finish the series on a high note. With the T20 World Cup approaching, the team management will be cautious with player workloads and fitness, particularly in light of the demanding international calendar.
No replacement has been officially named for today’s match, with the team expected to proceed with the remaining squad options.
