A fisherman in Daulatdia, Rajbari, caught a massive 19-kilogram katla (South Asian carp) fish from the Padma River, which was later sold for Tk53,200 at auction.

The fish was caught early Wednesday morning in the Char Majlishpur area of Char Korneshna by fisherman Krishna Halder.

As per, fish trader Shahjahan Sheikh, fisherman Krishna Halder had cast his net in the Padma River on Tuesday night, where the giant katla became trapped. “He later brought the fish to Chakku Mollah’s wholesale market, where I bought it in an open auction for Tk 2,800 per kilogram – a total of Tk 53,200,” Shahjahan said, adding that he intends to sell it later for a modest profit.

District Fisheries Officer Md Mahbubul Haque said, “As the Padma River’s water level continues to drop, fishermen are catching larger fish of various species.” According to Md Mahbubul Haque, the catches are bringing good profits to local fishermen.
