Police have arrested 44 individuals, including Shahin — the second-in-command of “Patali Group” — in connection with a brutal attack that left six members of a family critically injured in Mohammadpur.
The arrests were made during a late-night raid in the Rayerbazar Boatghat area on Sunday (18 May). Among those detained are leader Shahin (21), Srinath Mondal (25), Asad (55), among others, aged between 18 and 37.
According to Mohammadpur Police Station sources, the attack occurred in the early hours of May 15 near Rabi’s residence in the Ittadi Moor area, where six family members were hacked with sharp weapons. Following the violent assault, police launched an extensive operation to track down the perpetrators.
The arrested individuals include professional drug dealers, muggers, wanted criminals, and others involved in various offenses. All detainees have been sent to court.
Last year, in February, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 39 individuals of the same group, including Mohammad Shujon Mia, one of its leaders. According to reports, they were involved in mugging, extortion, and terrorist activities in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area.
